{\'e} o {\'{\I}}ndice Topogr{\'a}fico de Umidade (ITU). Este
{\'{\i}}ndice {\'e} determinado a partir de Modelos Digitais de

informa{\c{c}}{\~a}o geogr{\'a}fica. Embora o c{\'a}lculo seja
contribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o espec{\'{\i}}fica a partir de tr{\^e}s
subestimar {\'a}reas {\'u}midas e superestimar as {\'a}reas
secas.
escoamento superficial. ABSTRACT: Topography is an important
control on hydrological processes. One approach to quantify this
control is the Topographic Wetness Index (TWI). This index is
determined through Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) using a
geographic information system. Although the calculation is
relatively simple, the different resolutions between the DEMs
could have significant impact on the TWI. The purpose of this
study was to analyze the effects of DEMs resolution in the TWI
calculation to Palmitinho County with the intent to select the
best DEM resolution can separating the areas with potential water
saturation and generation of surface runoff. The TWI was calculate
based on the terrain attributes, declivity and specific
contribution area and from three different DEMs with different
resolutions (20m, 30m and 90m). The results were compared in terms
of quantitative difference and space distribution. The comparison
between the indexes revealed that as DEM resolution decreases the
TWI range also decreases. This has a consequence the
underestimation of wetness areas and overestimation of dry areas.
The DEM with finer resolution showed with more details areas with
potential to generate runoff.",
